Instrucciones: Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.

warning: there may be some battlestar galactica spoilers in here. They are clearly marked.

[info]kickthehobbit proffered these five:

1). Canada!
I grew up near the Canadian border and studied Canadian history not only in high school but in college. I love that frozen land!

2). [info]statements
I used to post a lot of single declarative sentences to my journal. Now I don't.

3). Your relationship to fandom.
I do not have one, especially since I found out that Janeway/Roslin exists.

4). Working retail.
I have done it since 2000 and I can't seem to get a job outside of it. YAY ME.

5). Writing.
I write a lot. I've been writing novels continuously since 1997, and even in 3rd grade people were impressed with my stories. I just never finish anything but my short stories.
look, there are more! )

TEN not so random things about me:
1. I claim I am 5'7.5", and still feel short a lot of the time.

4. I try not to stop reading books but I couldn't finish The Time Traveller's Wife.

25 things about me.

01) I am left handed. Like ridiculously so. I've been working on training my right hand to do things, but as of this moment I can only lift about the same amount with each hand. I can't even eat with a fork with my right hand, let alone write.

02) I am pretty proficient with computers, but printers, copiers, and fax machines throw me for a loop.

03) I tend to start watching shows and never finishing them unless they have Star Trek in the title.

04) I read a lot of books. I read so quickly that I have to restrict my reading habits to just my bus ride to work and back so I don't end up running out of books.

05) I am the worst cook that I know. I burn water. The only thing I don't fuck up is rice.

06) My two favourite subjects are foreign languages and history. I'm most proficient in Spanish and French, but I let both go to the wayside and I struggle to even put together the simplest of sentences.

07) I believe that my difficulty in driving is a) my lack of time behind the wheel b) my lack of depth perception. This is also why I do not play video games.

08) I have such undying wanderlust. I need to travel, and my inability to do so makes me occasionally very depressed. You should have seen me when I realized that I hadn't even been to Canada in over a year.

09) I cannot quit caffeine. Or soda. I have tried so many times to do so.

10) I auditioned for Jeopardy once in Toronto, and once online (last night). I am such a trivia nut that people occasionally accuse me of memorizing Trivial Pursuit cards.

11) Related to the Toronto audition (where [info]team_slacker drove me to Toronto :), I got interviewed on a Toronto radio station by some guy at the audition because I had never been to Toronto before.

12) I wanted to be a standup comedienne when I was younger, but I gave up on the idea when I couldn't come up with more than one monologue.

13) For all my Canadian love, I am actually allergic to maple.

14) A large contingent of my closest friends live in Ottawa or Newfoundland/Labrador.

15) The other part tends to live right here in Albany.

16) I used to dabble in calligraphy.

17) If I could teach myself to sing well, I would. I love singing, but I know I sound terrible.

18) I have six unfinished novels I've written. I prefer my short fiction, because I like that so much better. I found one piece of writing on my hard drive that I don't recall writing, but I really liked it. (remind me to copy it over to my writing journal sometime, [info]metropolis_n0ir).

19) My dad played so much Jethro Tull when I was a kid that I can't really enjoy it today, but I know all the words. He also used to make me pick out the instruments in each song, which helps me differentiate between music today.

20) Related to 6, when I was in 4th grade I found a book that taught you basic phrases in Italian in our school library. I wanted to learn it so badly. When I did take Italian in college, I was on Chapter 7 by the end of the first week of class. The professor made me a TA/tutor.

21) I currently read and edit Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wikipedia.

22) I am currently in love with the Tudor/Elizabethan era historically, and am reading everything I can get my hands on related to that time period.

23) I would like to drive a zamboni at a hockey game, be it college, minor league or NHL hockey.

24) I have seen The Dark Knight four times in theatres (the last time was on Tuesday, in IMAX), but I do not own the film.

25) I never put down The Count of Monte Cristo. I can't stop reading the book.

So! Tell me 25 things about yourselves, here or in your journals! If you did it on Facebook already, you should try to come up with another 25 :D

Gee, if you didn't know what tonight's was (well other than on what night I was gonna post it), then you do not know me well at all.

Tonight's thing that makes Ehjay happy is Canada (and friends. Shh I'm cheating slightly). I love visiting the country and all the wonderful friends I have made in that great welcoming friendly land. I can't even begin to list all of you, but you're the best friends anyone could ask for. I'm very much looking forward to my next trip up there, which will hopefully be in February to the Ottawa area. Or Montreal, cause Katie is moving to Plattsburgh and I promised to hit up MTL with her.

I am really blessed with all the great friends I have, whether it's in real life, on the internet, or people I've met on the internet in real life. All of you have been amazingly wonderfully profound influences and just overall kind people.

Yes, I am being sappy. I'm allowed it every once in a while. Tomorrow I'll go back to being cynical, but for now I just spent 2 hours with my coworkers at a dinner and we had a blast. So yeah. (Pictures are up on facebook, if anyone cares!)

(Maybe I will keep posting things I like. Go for more than eight. Would anyone object to this? I've really enjoyed this series.)

We have a work CD that we get every two months or so, usually far after the point where I want to take the disk and pull an Office Space on it. But one time we got this most amazing CD that had a mix of 70s, 80s, 90s and today's music on it. It was a thing of beauty. Everyone in the store liked at least one song on it. So the day after Christmas, so as not to listen to any more Christmas music, we pulled this CD out of storage, and it has yet to lose any of its lustre. Also I believe this was a sanity saving move, because I absolutely cannot tolerate Christmas music (unless it is the Pogues and Kirsty MacColl), and especially not after CHRISTMAS.

One of the songs on that cd is "Don't Stop Believing," by Journey. Now, I know, you guys are quite shocked to find out that I am a Journey fan. Believe me, it was hard keeping that from you guys. But yep, I'm a BIG Journey fan. That closet door has been blown wide open. ANd forget the Sopranos, I brought Journey back long before they did.

An interesting anecdote: our previous cd had this emo song on it that was really whiny, (yes, I know, redundant) and I do not know who it was by. But tonight this guy came in and interrogated me about the song because he loved it and had no idea who sang it. So I gave him the lyrics I could remember and sent him on his way. I just googled it, and it turns out it's Boys Like Girls' Thunder. Now I've seen Boys Like Girls open for lostprophets, and I was NOT impressed. But if I see Dude again, I can tell him.

Last night while I was thinking of what other British related things I really do like, because I like themes, I realized I was running low on British related things. However, [info]eco49rvra reminded me of one I was neglecting.

So tonight in my series of things I like is Battlestar Galactica. I find that this show rivals the love I have for Deep Space Nine, which was my favourite show growing up (and still is!).

When I was at Plattsburgh State, I had the same work schedule when I worked at KD -- Friday night til close, Saturday AM, and Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Friday night we closed at 9, and I would be home by 9:30 in my room with food for dinner, usually from either Burger King on Rte 3 or someplace on campus. It depended on whether or not I was getting a ride home or not. I'd settle in, ignore the last few minutes of Stargate: Atlantis, and climb into bed in time for Battlestar Galactica. This was my Friday night routine. After it was over, I would rave about it online to [info]uncut_diamond, and then I would go to bed and wake up in time for work the next day.

There are so many great things about this show: the writing, the overall plot, the acting. ESPECIALLY the acting. Many of you know how much I love the character of President Laura Roslin. A strong female character, a real leader is a rare thing on a television show, and Mary McDonnell just plays her so magnificently. I cannot suggest this show enough. It's coming to an end -- the last ten episodes start airing in January,

I skipped the last two days because I had to give a three year old gifts for her birthday and Christmas, plus work tonight. So here we go back again!

I was looking up Terry O'Quinn (Locke on Lost)'s appearance on Star Trek: The Next Generation, and it turns out he played Admiral Pressman in The Pegasus, which remains one of my favourite eps of the show.

But you know it can't be that easy, there's got to be some underlyingBritish theme to tonight's post.

Star Trek: The Next Generation's Jean-Luc Picard was a Frenchman played by a Brit. Which as I understand it from my mom is kind of funny because the British hate the French. This is borne out in history cause they seem to have some long-ass wars.

So tonight I honour the great Patrick Stewart by having you watch his multiple skills.

Keeping with the tradition I've started of British things dominating this list, I want to post a Christmas-related one.

See, I love the movie Love Actually.

This movie has the ability to make me laugh and cry no matter how many times I've seen it, and I love all but two segments of the film. (And surprisingly it's NOT Keira Knightley's fault.)

My favourite couple is of course Jamie and Aurelia, mainly cause he's COLIN FIRTH but also because it is so ridiculously sweet -- he goes and learns another language just for her. The other one I like best is the two kids -- the scene where he goes running through the airport to catch Joanna before she leaves for America is so much fun.

have some videos:

(Billy Mack, "Christmas is All Around")

Jamie asks Aurelia to marry him, with the help of her family.

Merry Christmas, friendslist!

(Also please send good vibes to my kitty Gonzo, who we took to the vet because he is not feeling well in the least.)

Tonight's topic in the eight days of things AJ thinks are really awesome is Great Britain.

My grandmother was from England, and while I have a wee bit more of an obsession with Canada than I do Jolly Ol' England, I find a lot of things about England to be charming.

We covered tea last night, and tonight I'm going to talk about the classic British accent. The quintessential Hugh Grant accent, but on a sexier man. That's pretty much awesome right there.

My own attempts at accent imitation have been sporadically documented here and in real life. I'm a burgeoning accent mimic. One year for about three months, I spoke with nothing but one version of British accent. I ceased doing that when one of my high school classmates told me I sounded like Scary Spice.

When I went to SLU, I believe it was Neil and me who terrorized Joanne by constantly going around with a Monty Python-esque accent. That was quite fun.

One day in Canton, i resolved to get my hair cut. In one of those tiny little plazas, the one with Hackett's in it, there is a kind of a shed at the edge of the parking lot. Inside is a hair salon, and that's where I went to get my hair cut.

While I'm not very good at conversation with my stylists, because generally we don't share the same interests ([info]sheesusnat excluded of course!). The following occurs toward the end of my haircut.

Her: Where are you from?
Me: Gouverneur, but I've been told I have a bit of a Canadian accent.*
Her: Really? You sound British to me.

At this point in time I wasn't really trying to push the accent, but I thought that was wicked neat. When Bridget moved in earlier this year, one of the first things she told me was that she missed my British accent. It's been replaced by a hybrid of the Albany accent and a bit of Canadian influences. So tonight I resolved to get that Mid-Atlantic accent back at the very least.

Oh, I forgot to tag people for this meme. Anyone who wants to can feel free, but I'd really like to see [info]nikerymis, [info]cimorenegal, [info]purple_bambi, [info]shiori_hime, [info]stlawgal05, [info]slugrl, [info]trishbug, [info]ifeverangelsbe, [info]juizo and [info]eco49rvra** do this.

* I am aware there's no one Canadian accent, but I tend to simplify rather than explain the regional differences, especially since I only know Ontario and points east.
** I know Kristen already did this, but I enjoyed it, so I think she should do it again.

You Are 50% British

Congrats, mate. You're are probably British.

(If not, definitely Australian. Or Kiwi. Or Canadian.)

Today's thing is tea. Lately I've been having a cup of caffeine free tea before I go to bed -- sometimes two. I cannot wait for our Teavana store to open in the mall.

Tonight I'm drinking chamomile tea, but right now I have that and cinnamon apple tea, and both are delicious.

Do you have a favourite flavour of tea, or one you'd recommend me to try?

Tonight was Katie's birthday dinner. This ended with me ending up the store lush despite not having anything to drink. Not really sure how THAT happened, but I think it had to do with the fact that I forgot what I ordered, got a martini and a margarita confused, then accidentally tried to go into the men's room in full view of everyone at the table. The Sonnet

Deliberate Gentle Love Dreamer (DGLD)

The Sonnet

Romantic, hopeful, and composed. You are the Sonnet. Get it? Composed?

Sonnets want Love and have high ideals about it. They're conscientious people, caring & careful. You yourself have deep convictions, and you devote a lot of thought to romance and what it should be. This will frighten away most potential mates, but that's okay, because you're very choosy with your affections anyway. You'd absolutely refuse to date someone dumber than you, for instance.

Lovers who share your idealized perspective, or who are at least willing to totally throw themselves into a relationship, will be very, very happy with you. And you with them. You're already selfless and compassionate, and with the right partner, there's no doubt you can be sensual, even adventurously so.

You probably have lots of female friends, and they have a special soft spot for you. Babies do, too, at the tippy-top of their baby skulls.

Your exact female opposite:
