Last night I worked from 6pm to 3am doing the new floorset. Well, really I processed freight and everyone else set up the store. When I emerged from the back room, there was a wall for LEGGINGS. Entirely devoted to leggings. AND GUESS, oh GUESS, dear readers what one type of leggings were labelled along the wall. Go on, guess.

I'll wait.

Yeah. Luckily they haven't come in yet. Otherwise I might have to light them on fire. Unlike my home store, which nearly caught on fire. My roommates both worked tonight and told me how they had to evacuate the mall after a power outage to their side of the mall.

So! Latest on Honduras. (Yes, I'm still posting about that. You all can play tl;dr).

Because Chávez and Zelaya are BFF, Chávez cut off oil supplies from Venezuela to Honduras in a classic move.

Zelaya, in turn decided his move would be to give an ultimatum. A vague ultimatum.

And finally, teachers returned to work after ending their strike. Teachers struck originally to support Zelaya.

Apparently Zelaya has a fetish for these hats:

I was gone all weekend and it turns out that Zelaya tried to fly back to Honduras and this was VETOED.

I also subscribe to Chilean news on my Google News feed. One of the articles I read yesterday covered what this article explains. Chile is considering recalling its Honduran ambassador. The OAS doesn't seem to like this coup much.

So uh, reading more I find that when Zelaya DID try to return, he was fired upon, and someone got killed in the resulting firefight. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton got the two sides to agree to a mediator -- Costa Rican President Oscar Arias, who incidentally is a) a Nobel Prize winner b) the president of the country Zelaya ended up in.

And finally, in a random note: the US is set to play Honduras in soccer.

Real life was really annoying today -- I actually lost my temper at work today.

The phone rang at the store, and I answered it as I usually do: "Thank you for Calling my place of employment, where you can do something; this is Amanda, how may I help you?"

The woman replies, "this is So and So from Such and Such Mastercard. You owe us a delinquent payment of over 1000 dollars."

"Excuse me, you've got the wrong person."

"No, this is your work number."

"Yeah, I got that, but I'm not who you're looking for."

"You're Amanda S-, right?"

"No."

"What's your last name?"

Here is where I made my fatal mistake. "I don't believe I have to give you that information, as I do not do business with you."

"Look, Amanda, I know you work there -- we've spoken to M- already before. You need to stop lying to us."

"I am not the Amanda you are looking for, and I am not giving you my last name!" And I hung up on her. Fucking listen, lady -- god forbid there be two people named Amanda that work at a place. OR three, like at my other store.

Ottawa was amazing as always. It broke my heart to leave again, and as usual I resolved to move there someday. I do mean it, when I resolve that, but it's so complicated moving internationally.

Julie & Aidan's wedding was wonderful. I had such a lovely time, and they looked SO happy to be married. It reminded me a lot of Mark & Christine's wedding -- the bride and the groom wanted so much to be married and it was contagious.

Pictures will be up on facebook shortly -- I'm just downloading them off of the camera now. When I got home facebook wasn't working for me, and then K & A told me that it hadn't been working oh, since Thursday when I left. Hmm. As per [info]lightfromlight's advice I reset the modem/router, and voila, Facebook access again.

Anyway, I must get ready for tomorrow -- I start my first day over at Colonie Center Mall. I'm nervous, excited, and I kinda feel like the new kid in school. We'll see how it goes.

Maricela gave me little bit more today.

First off, while she is fully in support of Zeleya's removal, she feels that moving him to Costa Rica was not the right call. After reading a bit more, I agree as well. Calling it a coup is more plausible if you remove the leader from the country. Arresting him and calling for impeachment hearings would have led to less condemnation and possibly fewer protestors.

Here's a good article discussing the US take on it. To sum up, basically the US is treading lightly. While they condemn the tactics of taking down Zeleya, they're not insisting upon his reinstatement. Which is in line with policies of previous administrations.

Maricela also wanted me to post this video:
.
I don't agree with what Krauthammer is saying here, mainly because he uses a Hitler comparison, and I feel that it is a little overblown in this situation. He kind of throws out all the "scary" left wing names -- Chavez, Ortega. It's like a who's who of Latin American leftists.

Zeleya is asking the UN for help in getting himself reinstated.

It seems apparent that no one likes how this was done, like Maricela said, but no one has a problem with the reasoning behind it. The American government, the OAS (Organization of American States), and leaders worldwide seem to be avoiding talking about the reasons behind the arrest.

I will probably keep posting about this every day except when I go to Canada this weekend, because I think it's an important news story that I don't want to see get lost.

------------------------

In non-Honduras news, I finish my last day at my store tomorrow. After I come back from Canada, I'll be in Colonie Center for the summer and most of the fall. It'll be a+++ good times. I'm gonna miss the hell out of my girls though

[info]shiori_hime will be here tomorrow and Wednesday. She leaves me for Japan on July 25 -- she's going to be a JET!

I know there was something else I wanted to talk about, but I can't remember it now. Oh well!

State Senate continues to be a bunch of big babies.

You know, I'm one of the biggest NYS apologists you'll find, but goddamn, they're trying my patience. We need to just up and start over. Empty the Senate, run new elections, and not allow any of these jackoffs to run again. I'm sorry, but this whole thing is ridiculous. And of course it is the city senators fucking everything up. Every day I hear someone else say how much they want to leave New York, or how much they hate it here. And sometimes I feel the same way. I love New York. I love how diverse a state it is, and I think there is a lot of potential in New York. Especially after the elections last year shook everything up in the Assembly and the Senate. But to cause such gridlock and make the state the laughingstock of the states, well good lord. Even I can't find a way to support that.

In other news, my life is a giant mess right now, and I just want to curl into my bed and never get out of it again. I have 9 days left before I transfer to the other store. ALso, Canada, which always makes me feel better. I also would like a mulligan on today.

Again, NCIS is super addictive. I pop in a disk to watch ONE episode and I end up watching the entire disk. This is a bad idea if you start it at 2am.

Tonight I'm going to watch just one episode but that's because the season finale of Life after People is on at 2am. It aired at 10, but I had to work and didn't get home til 10:30. I missed having cable.

I was sitting in here minding my own buisness reading ONTD when I heard something shatter -- this was after whatshisname dude yelled something about darts in the wall, and I got really confused. so I opened the door to find shattered glass everywhere in the kitchen. WTF?

I quickly ascertained that my poor crockpot had fallen out off the top of the fridge, where I had safely stored it a while ago, and it crashed onto K's four beer mugs, and all of them fell on the floor. The glass that broke was one of the mugs and the lid to the crockpot, which exploded in spectacular fashion.

I think I can get it replaced, hopefully.

Anyway, tonight was boring at work. I just filled stuff. However, I did learn that I will be going to the Colonie store after I get back from [info]ifeverangelsbe's wedding. Also hotel rooms are expensive *sadface* I'm getting a sweet ass deal on bus tickets though, seventy five round trip. Go me! ETA: Wrongity wrong wrong. Apparently I missed the deadline and now it's 129 bucks; and my discount coupon that Greyhound gave me won't work. Jerks.

And in one final awesome note, because my name is so ridiculously common, I never get to use my name as a username for anything ever. Last night I got to do so on Facebook. (If we're not facebook friends, add me!)

-Came home, tried being social but realized I'm too old for beer pong...

So I have been sick the last few days, which is kind of making me cranky. Stupid cold. Anyway, today [info]lightfromlight and I were gonna go to Sonic down in Kingston, cause we just learned from my friend Chrissy that they have them, but we decided we were too poor for that. So instead we decided to go to Potter's Tavern (linked above) because she had a gift certificate for there. We'd previously tried to go on a Monday but they were closed.

Potter's Tavern is located north of Troy, in the middle of nowhere. It's a pretty drive when you leave Troy. The location also has a pottery business (in fact they make the dishes for the restaurant) and a Vermont crafts store. It's actually really neat. We got there too late for the shops to be open, but the restaurant was a real treat. Potato skins with real Vermont cheese, and really good, reasonably priced entrees. The owner even came outside to chat with his guests. I can't say enough about how enjoyable it was there.

Also, I'm cutting this short to climb into bed, but I wanted to make sure [info]azurecobalt saw this link: http://www.hedgehogshow.com/ Schoharie isn't too far a drive for y'all, right?

So Star Trek broke my internet!

Not really. But still. I went and saw the AMAZING Star Trek and came home to tell the internet all about it. I plugged in the laptop and suddenly I was unable to connect. It was very tragic, I will tell you.

So I couldn't get it to work. A week later, Bridget moved to East Greenbush. I helped pack her up and I shipped her out. I ended up with a severe sunburn on my arm. Now I have been spending the last week trying to get my shoulder tanned to match so I don't look stupid with my farmer tan.

She took the modem with her so I've been without internet.

I'm moving June 1st to a new place. Address will be posted later in a locked post. I'm packing like crazy and I hate it.

Crap there's so much I wanted to write about but I forgot what it was. This sucks. Oh well. I'm gonna post a little piece I wrote while I was offline to my writing journal. I've mostly been doing my book.

So I signed a lease for a new place. It is an upstairs apartment with a beautiful hardwood floor. It also has one major perk that made me want the place without seeing the interior -- a BALCONY. There are only two things in life that I want in my house and that is a wraparound porch and a balcony. Now I can belt out "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" to my adoring masses below drink iced tea and write my books.

This brings me to point two: if you haven't had a chance to read my newest piece in [info]metropolis_n0ir, now is your chance. For those new to my journal, that is my writing journal that is seldom updated.

Point three: Dress thing got resolved. My friend Genevieve is lending me this ridiculously gorgeous dress and I am going to wear it to both weddings and like owe her billions of thanks because it's so pretty! Yes, pictures will be forthcoming, but I have to get the accessories and proper undergarments (it's a halter dress and I don't have any strapless bras on account of they being so expensive.

Point five: I am going tomorrow to do two major errands: say goodbye to one of my work buddies. We mock-argue all the time up to and including your mom jokes, so I will miss her a lot. The other errand is to go see my landlady to either pay my rent or to convince her to use my security deposit as last month's rent. I'd prefer the latter but am ok with the former.

Point six: I am contemplating taking another vacation again to Ottawa. I have SOMEONE's wedding to go to, and I would love to be on Parliament Hill for 1 July, so I am thinking if I can wrangle it to go up 30 June and stay til 5 July. I'm not sure how feasible this is, but I'm definitely thinking about it.

Point seven: I am deeply grateful to whoever re-upped my paid account. I have no idea who did it, but thank you!

Yesterday I spent the evening trying on dresses at my store to see if I liked one for my sister's wedding. None really worked. Today I went to buy a couple of shirts I had my eye on ([info]nikerymis -- one is that polo you got in purple, LOL). So I tried on one of our strapless dresses at Mary's insistence, and it looked really good! I was all set to buy it and be done with it since Kathy was gonna lend me jewelry.

Then I remembered that my sister's wedding colours were almost identical to the dress I was holding. Whoops. So I asked my mom, and she said it might not be too bad cause they're not the same style.

Then [info]nikerymis linked me to her actual dress. This is hers, in the magenta colour. This is mine, in the magenta colour.

Back to square one for me!

No, really, I did.

Long story:
I was going from work to Renssalaer to pick up [info]asecretworld, who will be here for a couple of days. The bus was being a PITA, stopping at one stop for no particular reason at all, so I texted Emma and we decided she'd take a cab to my house alone. So I got off at Lark St, and went to grab the next 10 back to my house. So I get on it and it's going down Central Avenue like it's supposed to and it got to Henry Johnson Blvd. Right there were flashing cop cars and lights and several guys standing around, including a couple of bike cops. I saw a bicycle lying on the ground, and I saw what looked to be like a sack of something on the ground. As we pulled up in front of the building, I saw a man lying there, with a caved in skull, the top part of his forehead was red, and he was not moving. What was really really frightening to me, besides the part where I had never seen anything like that was really hearing the reactions of everyone else on the bus. They all had the same reaction I did which was basically saying, "Oh my god," and looking, but unable to look away.

It's a little odd.

I managed to get to Price Chopper half hour before they closed today, which was fortuitous, cause I figured they'd close at 4. Turns out they close at 3 on Easter. WTF ever. But I have the ingredients for tacos. That's the important thing.

I was looking forward to today for a while because I am home by myself and I don't have to worry about leaving the house and doing anything. It's especially nice because the last two days we had a giant pre-Easter sale which led up to 1000 people to flood into our stores. That's a lot of people, and I just want a day to decompress and deal with how much not getting that transfer to Colonie bothered me. Tomorrow would have been my first day over there, but now I go back to my old store and continue doing the same old stuff.

They're gonna make me a brand coach at the store so I have to come up with ways to convince my cynical jaded coworkers that opening cards is FUN. I get a bonus if we make 5% credit any given week for my trouble, but do you know how hard that is? Jeez...

I was gonna go outside and write for a while but it's too cold for that. Dammit weather, warm up!

Also I would like to say that I am very much a fan of the new Decemberists album.

I love my last.fm radio, but it has this habit of playing songs that I really really love as I decide to log off for the night. Last night it was Journey and Daughtry. Tonight it is David Usher and Coheed and Cambria.

I wonder if it's just my perception or whether the computer really can tell that I'm losing interest and want to go to bed. Or that I have very little willpower when it comes to music?

Anyway, while I wait for "Black Black Heart" to finish, a little story.

[info]lightfromlight and I went on a WalMart run earlier. We went out to the East Greenbush store because, well it's awesome. We wandered through the store mostly looking for yarn and her grocery list. As we crossed into the grocery side of the supercenter, I spotted a box of No-Bake Reese's Bars. It was in the wrong spot but I picked up, intrigued. Laurie told me I'd probably put it back when we found where it went, but we never did find it. So I bought it and brought it home. It doesn't even require milk and comes with its own pan. How awesome is that?

I'm totally making these when I go to my last day of work at my store on Saturday.

Note: The next song up was Blackmore's Night - Again Someday. I do love me some Blackmore's Night.

Today I got up late but early enough to head downtown to the Bus Station. I wasn't going anywhere (although dear god did I want to) but I was meeting [info]asecretworld there. For those of you who don't know her, she's a lovely young woman from Australia who is currently touring the US/Canada for a few months. She was on her way to Montreal and had a layover of about an hour in Albany, so I suggested that I come down and see her and get her some food before she headed up to face the dreaded border guards.

I had a great time with her. I was gonna take her to the Fusion Cafe, figuring she, like most people I know would like sushi, but it turns out that like me, she actually doesn't care for it. So we went instead to a tiny little pizza shop called Jonathan's, which has a photo of the owners with the members of the Sugar Hill Gang. WHich reminds me that Flava Flav does in fact shop at Crossgates Mall, but that's another thing altogether.

Anyway, between Emma's stories of travelling and how much fun I had on my trip to Ottawa last month, I came to a sort of epiphany. I just want to travel. So after I go to my sister's wedding (6 June) and Julie's wedding (4 July), I'm saving up for a pretty fun trip somewhere. Whether it's back to Newfoundland, or if it's off to somewhere else, I'm going to do it.

OMG BSG why must you break my heart?

I saw the four most saddest words in the English language today: Battlestar Galactica Series Finale.

Four years of my life are coming to an end with this show. Not sure I can really explain how important this show is to me, other than to say that I don't really know what will come along and replace it*. Granted, I said the same thing about DS9, but it took five years for BSG to come along.

So sometime in 2014 you'll find me with a new show.

I still love Lost, and I always will, but it doesn't capture my heart like BSG did.

I got the charger to work a bit today, so I'm happy with that. Tomorrow I work with my Katie, so that will be fabulous. And hopefully the new charger will come ASAP.
